ACADEMIC MATTERS

SCHOOL HOURS AND TIME TABLE

The morning session includes 7 periods of 45 minutes with two 20-minute breaks. Post lunch session is utilized for additional exercises (home work), games, sports and extra-curricular activities.

On weekdays, classes start from 7:15 am and end at 2:30 pm. Students are expected to arrive at school at least five minutes before classes begin. The school is not responsible for students arriving before 7:00 in the morning or remaining after school.

EVALUATION

Evaluation of a student’s achievement is based on informal observation and supervision of class work and home work, and on formal assessment through oral recitations, drop quizzes, monthly unit tests, projects, reports and terminal examinations.

SUBMITTING ASSIGNMENTS

Assignments are expected to be submitted on time. In case of delay in submitting an assignment with acceptable justification, a new deadline may be approved by the teacher, provided it does not exceed one week, past that date the student receives a zero grade on the assignment. All assignments must be completed before the term exam date. Past those dates the students receives a zero grade on the assignment.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

Copying work from other students, using material from books, CD-ROM’S, computer programmes, internet sites or other sources without proper acknowledgement is in contradiction with the principles of honesty, self-reliance and responsibility.

Such actions will not be tolerated and may lead students to severe loss of grade and serious disciplinary action.

MONTHLY TEST

Students are expected to make all efforts to sit for monthly tests on the dates scheduled. If they are absent for reasons beyond their control, with an excuse accepted by the school, they will be required to sit for a make-up test. If they do not sit for that make-up test, or if their excuse is not accepted, they will receive a zero grade on the test.

PRIVATE TUTORING

Normally all students are expected to receive proper explanation and assistance in the classroom or in homework classes.

So the school in principle discourages the practice of private tutoring. In a few cases due to long absence or to attend to specific weaknesses, the school will authorize teachers to tutor students under the following conditions:

Tutoring by our teachers requires prior written approval from administration. Tutoring is provided on the basis of a clear instructional plan specifying the content to be covered, the material used, the duration of the tutoring, and the criteria for assessment of the progress. Tutoring takes place in the school campus. The financial arrangement will be made through the school.

EXTRA CLASSES

The school may organize remedial sessions for students in need. Parents are duly informed and they will be responsible for arranging transportation.

GRADING SYSTEM

Promotion to the next higher grade is decided on the basis of continuous assessment of the student’s performance during the academic year.

Unit tests: 20% First Term Examination: 40% Second Term Examination: 40%

Overall grade is allotted on the basis of total percentage obtained. Due weightage will be given for projects, coursework and discipline.

REPORTS

Progress reports are issued after each monthly test. Grade reports are issued at the end of each term. The final promotion decision is recorded in the June report. Parents must sign each report and they are welcome to meet the teachers if they need any help or explanation. PROMOTION REQUIREMENTS

ACADEMIC PROBATION At the end of each term, students who fail to meet the promotion requirements are placed on “Academic Probation”. If they meet promotion requirements at the end of the following term, they are removed from probationary status. Repeated “Academic Probations” may jeopardize the student’s relationship with the school.

HOMEWORK CLASSES Homework classes play a very important role in our school. All students are strongly advised to: Review the topics taught in the morning session carefully and discuss doubts, if any, with the teachers concerned. Follow the homework timetable and maintain discipline in class. Finish incomplete assignments, projects etc. over the weekend.
