Parent Guide


GENERAL MATTERS

SCHOOL UNIFORMS

Uniforms should be bought from the approved suppliers only. Uniforms are mandatory on regular days, school trips and school events. A student not wearing proper uniform and not having an excuse slip from parents may not be allowed to attend the classes.

CIRCULARS AND LETTERS

Communication between school and parents is of utmost importance. Students are expected to deliver school letters and circulars to parents on the same day. To maintain a record of communication between the school and the parents a separate pro-forma is given in the Pupil’s Diary.

LOCKERS

Each child is provided with a locker for the safekeeping of his/her property and equipments. However, lockers remain the property of the school and students will be financially held responsible for any damage. Coordinators are allowed to check lockers regularly to avoid misuse.

IDENTIFICATION OF BELONGINGS

All students’ belongings must be clearly marker with their names and/or registration number.

LOST AND FOUND

The School is not responsible for anything left after school hours, and during weekends and holidays. However, any lost items may be inquired about from the school office.

HOUSES

The school follows a House system, comprising of four Houses, namely Aradous, Awal, Dilmun, and Tylos. Each student is assigned a House at the time of admission. A rolling Champion House Trophy will be awarded to the House obtaining maximum points in Inter-House Competitions, academics and discipline. Each child’s merits will count towards winning the Champion House Trophy.

GIFTS

The School staff are not to be offered any gifts. Parents and students are requested to abide by this regulation.

PARTIES AND CELEBRATIONS

Birthday parties and celebrations are prohibited at all times inside classrooms. In certain cases, they may be held during the breaks or lunch hours in the Multi-Purpose Hall under the supervision of teachers. Prior permission from the coordinator is required. Ordering food from outside the school is strictly prohibited.

CANTEEN

The canteen operates during school hours and junk food is strictly prohibited. Parents can send light refreshments along with their wards to the school. However, students who are unable to bring refreshments from home, can purchase the same from the school canteen.

SCHOOL YEAR CALENDAR

The School Calendar indicating holidays and vacation dates is given in the Pupil’s Diary. Changes, if any, will be announced to parents and students in writing. Parents are requested to refer to the School Calendar when planning family vacations and occasions.

ACTIVITIES AND CLUBS

The school provides activity classes for all Key Stages. The aim of these activities is to help the student to broaden his/her perspective, and provide him/her with opportunities for effective use of leisure time.

EDUCATIONAL/FIELD TRIPS

Every month teachers and students are provided with opportunities for learning and teaching outside classrooms. Trips are generally organized at the end of each month.

PUBLICATIONS

Students are encouraged to volunteer themselves to the publication committee and print newsletters and magazines regularly.

END OF THE YEAR PROCEDURES

Students must comply with the end of the year procedures i.e. returning all library books, payment of arrears, if any etc. to be eligible to get the report card.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING

Teachers and the Counsellor provide guidance and assistance to students in meeting their academic and social needs. When in difficulty, students are encouraged to seek their help.

TRANSPORT

Transportation of children is not an obligatory service for the school, but it is arranged for the convenience of the parents. The school authorities are not responsible for any delay, accident or breakdown of the transport.

The following transport service regulations are hereby framed to make school transport service regular, punctual, safe and convenient.

In order to avoid any chaos and confusion at the bus parking ground the following must be strictly adhered to: Bus numbers are written on the Parking Ground and the buses are parked accordingly. After reaching the parking ground, students should go to the specific point where the buses are parked and board them immediately. They should not loiter around and enter any other bus. Once they board their buses, they should not come out leaving their bags for any reason whatsoever. They are expected to cooperate with the traffic volunteers (students/staff) who are posted at various positions

THE SPORTS DEPARTMENT

The Sports Department is committed to providing the best in equipment, facilities and coaching. The choice of games and activities provided range from swimming to tennis. Others include football (boys only), basketball, throw ball (girls only), table tennis and volleyball. Students can choose any two sports from the list provided to each Key Stage, in which they will take part throughout the year.

RULES All students enrolled in the school must take part in physical education activities unless they have an exemption certificate from medical authorities. A proper sports kit must be worn by the students during the sports classes. Abuse of equipments and facilities may invite immediate fine. Mass drill and march past are compulsory for all on the sports day. Inter-House Competitions will be conducted and championship will be awarded on the basis of merits secured in sports. Individual championship will be awarded at each Key Stage. Students are expected to observe discipline and sportsmanship during sport classes and while at the playgrounds. Any disobedience or unacceptable behaviour will be severely dealt with.

GENERAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

To participate in any AMDBS athletic activities such as Sports Day or Inter-House competitions, students must meet all the following requirements:

Must produce a medical report of physical fitness. Must produce a consent form, filled in by parents. Must have clear record of all obligations for materials and equipments etc. from the previous year. Must fulfill disciplinary requirements. Must ensure they are in proper sports uniform. Pass reports of the test & examination

ATTENDANCE

Attendance at all practice sessions is a must. Students will be excused if they are sick and are absent from school. Students in school and not willing to participate must have a note produced from the parents explaining the reason. In order to participate in any sports event, the student must attend school for the entire day

TEAM ELIGIBILITY

In order to be a member of a team, it is important that a student must be present at all practice sessions. It is recommended that the sports teacher should not consider a student for team membership if he/she applies for leave after official practice has begun.

ABSENCE FROM SPORTS

If a student is sick and not in school, he/she will be excused from practice for a day. Unexcused absence will not be permitted. Absence must be supported by a letter from parents stating the reason.

ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

An award is presented by the school to a student to recognize his/ her contributions to the success of the team in its participation in inter-school competitions etc. It is also a means to acknowledge a student’s individual contribution in bringing glory to the school. In order to be eligible for consideration for achievement award, the student must:

Meet the required attendance criteria Must return or pay for all equipments and/ or lost uniforms, if any. Must meet all the athletic requirements and rules stated above.
